Dushanbe, 8 July: The China Theban Electric Apparatus Stock Co Ltd (CTEAS) Chinese company intends to build the Sangvor hydroelectric power station on the river of Khingob, the Tajik Ministry of Energy and Industry has told the Avesta [news agency].

According to the source, a session of the Tajik-Chinese intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, which was held in China on 25-26 June, discussed the issues of the Chinese company's participation in the construction of the hydroelectric power station. A memorandum on bilateral cooperation on this issue was signed there.

In line with the document, the Chinese company will carry out a feasibility study of the project, which is expected to be implemented using the "Bioti" method [as received].

The sides want to set the deadline for the repayment of the funds, allocated by the Chinese side, after completing the feasibility study.

An agreement on construction of the hydroelectric power station will be signed during Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Tajikistan, within the framework of his participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's summit in August this year, the Ministry of Energy and Industry said.

The Sangvor hydroelectric power station will be built 300 km east of Dushanbe, on the river of Khingob (a feeder river that leads to the River Vakhsh). Planned production capacity of the station is 800 MW. Potential capacity of the station's reservoir will be 1.5-2bn cu.m. The projected value of the facility is about 1bn dollars.
