Tajik Guests of Iran's Persian Literature Congress Arrive

TEHRAN (FNA)- Twelve Tajik scholars arrived in Tehran on Saturday to attend the 6th International Congress of World Teachers of Persian Language and Literature, which will be held at the University of Tehran on January 14 and 15.

About 300 Iranian and foreign scholars are invited to the program of whom some will deliver speeches on different aspects of Persian language and literature, Tehran Times reported.

The foreign guests of the congress have been scheduled to have several meetings with cultural officials from Iran's Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

Several trips to Iran's famous tourist sites have also been arranged for the guests.

In addition, the organizers plan to review the literature on the Iran-Iraq 1980-1988 war, known as the Sacred Defense, on the sideline of the congress, which will be sponsored by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Chinese scholar Yidan Wang from the Institute of Iranian Culture Studies at Peking University regards Iran as her second country.

Prof. Wang, who recently returned from Iran, delivered a speech on comparative classic literature of Iran and China at the 6th International Congress of World Teachers of Persian Language and Literature held at the University of Tehran on January 15 and 16.

She called her trip a revival of her old sweet memoirs when she was studying in Iran, and said, "Traveling to Iran has always been fascinating to me."

What makes Iran's classic literature distinct from other world literature is that Persian literature pays due attention to human spirituality, she said, adding, "Classic Persian literature is full of love, spirit, and affection while Chinese literature is so smooth and flowing that I compare it to running water."

She later expressed her regret that there are not many translations of classic Persian literature in China despite the keen interest of Chinese people, Tehran Times reported.

Prof. Wang has been teaching Persian literature at the Peking University for about 10 years.
