Imaam Khomaini?
Are you kidding me? do you know what Khomaini thought of the Pars (Tajik) nationalism this site is about?
Burhanuddin is a pure Muslim Brother member - you know the type from Egypt - and he prevented Massoud many times from removing opposition elements like Gulbuddin - to our great cost.
Zabiullah of Balkh and Safiullah of Herat would be much better candidates !

Such a soft and passive person as Rabbani couldn't mean much for Tajik nation, and if there was no Massoud, he could never enter the presidential palace in Afghanistan. Yet, he was quite an obstacle for Massoud sometimes. While Massoud was fighting against Ali Mazari in Kabul, he was conducting friendly negotiations with Mazari, telling him that it was Massoud who had problems with him, not Rabbani himself.
But his presence at this moment is useful, he can at least bring different ppl under a ceiling. And for him, brotherhood with Arabs and their culture is more important than Tajiks and our culture. Very sad, indeed.
He didn't do at least a damn thing for Badakhshan: the province is one of the poorest ones in the country.

I agree with you.
Imam Khomeini was not a leader of Persians but a leader of Shi'a Muslims of Iran. He was a pan-Islamist, not a Persian or Iranian nationalist. Khomeini cared nothing for ethno-cultural nationalism, or for Iranian nationhood for that matter. He only recognized Muslim nationhood and his concept of the Islamic state.
Dr Mossadegh tho is a great example of an Iranian nationalist and someone i think that Tajiks should be able to admire too.

I agree that he is serving a useful purpose at the moment. Very astutely as well. But historically not that great for our cause.
