Yes I'm well aware of the origins of the word Afghan and how it was once synonymous with Pashtuns. It is now a word used by everyone with a heritage from Afghanistan.

Pors jaan,

It honestly makes no difference if I say I'm a Tajik from Afghanistan if people do not know much about Afghanistan or its people. Instead of division, I believe in unity - and that doesn't work when people constantly mention their ethnic group. (in my opinion anyway) Nowadays, the term Afghan encompasses ALL people from Afghanistan.

If I tell someone I am Uzbek they will think i am from Uzbekistan.
If I tell someone I am Chinese they will think I am from China.
These are just examples btw. Chinese and Uzbeks do live outside of both Uzbekistan and China, but most people don't know that.

All my Afghan friends, whether they are Pashtun, Tajik or Hazara (cos they're the only ethnic groups from Afghanistan i've ever met!) call themselves AFGHANS. My Pashtun friends call me AFGHAN. Between us, there is none of this "I'm Pashtun" or "I'm Tajik" nonsense. We all have ancestry from the same land and we're just content to know that we share something.
