Recently I bought a dictionary for Middle Farsi and its interesting how these words became a part of Arabic.

Middle Farsi

Daftar (دفتر) > same meaning as kitab (کتاب)
Taj (تاج) > in Arabic also
Sep (سپ)> sib (سیب) in Arabic
Jaam (جام)
jaman (جمان ) > came into Arabic as zaman (زمان)
gul > this is not of Turkic origin

I will be adding more along the way

نه مرد رسد هرگز ونه زن آنجا

These are some Middle Persian words:

Cheka (Seka)

Chack (the modern english word check comes from this word and 1500 years ago we Persians had this checking system that modern banking is using. westerners adopted this system from us)

Gahramaan (Treasurer. In New Persian it is Qahraman and it means Hero)

Gaza (the Arabs borrowed this word from us and they made it "Gaza")

Mazget ( Another Middle Persian word for temple that Arabs borrowed and made Masjed)

Maha-rooz (Arabs also borrowed this word from us and made Maharekh/Mowarekh and Tarikh from it)

Thank you for clarifying what I meant by middle Persian Gul Agha. I am starting to use these old words now especially when I want to write some poetry and use both old and current words.

It is amazing how such old words like these came into Arabic. I wonder how many other words are non Arabic in origin.

Gul Agha thank you again for all your help and wisdom; I am very grateful for it!

I have a good word for "eshgh". The pure word is dusharm (دوشارم)

Another word that is of Farsiwan origin is Kahrba (کهربا), or amber. I will look for the original spelling of the word; I do know that there is a "p" in the pure word.

The word "lajward" in Arabic came from "lazhward (لاژورد)."

I found the word I was looking for. The Arabic word "Kahrba" came from "kahrupaak (کهروپاک)

Interesting. How do you use the word "dusharm" in various contexts? Let's say in this example: "True love is a wonder that has no end or beginning."

Pors jan that is a good question.

I guess you would say, "dusharmet sar o tah nadarad."

Oh I found another word too.

"Altun" came from "Almaast;" Almaast (الماست ) being the pure farsiwan word.

Also instead of saying "yaqut" you can say yaakand (یاکند ).

I hope people are enjoying this thread.

I made a mistake; almaast (الماست)is the pure Farsi word for almaas (الماس) which is diamond in Arabic.

I think altun is gold in arabic.

The word "nil (نیل)" came into Arabic from the old word nilak (نیلک). Nil is also used in Hindi.

Is there another way of saying zafaron? Saffron is not a spice native to Arabs; in fact its roots date back to Zoroaster rituals as well as being herbal medicine.
