I will be reading a book soon about Hallaj, but I wanted to see what you think about him. What symbolic meaning does he hold? One thing I have noticed is that he his cited as being Arab but he is not. Also his name is mentioned many times by Rumi and in the divan of Attar.

He was killed by ignorants and cave-monkies, from the same people we are facing today in our homelands. And you´re right, he was not an Arab. He was a Persian who lost his mothertoung in an arab dominated community.

And the sadder part is while I was on Itunes one day I found a cd by this Arab singer who sings his poems on the oud. The good thing is that you can find his poems translated back into Parsi, but they are hard to find. If I ever get my hands on one of his divans I will make a special thread for all his poems.
(Attar Nishapour, Mokhtar Nameh)
(Attar Nishapour, Mokhtar Nameh)
