Khorasan-Transoxiania was an independant country from 820-999AD, until it got partitioned into two: Khorasan under Ghaznevids and Transoxiania under Karakhanids.
Under Seljuqs, the whole entire near-east formed one nation. Under the last Seljuq great-sultan Sultan Sanjar and his successors Muayyed Atabeks Khorasan was an independant nation. Then again Khorasan(Khorasan province in Iran & Turkmenistan) enjoyed independance under Tuqa-Timurids, Jani-Qurban Mongols, Sarbedarids, then under several Timurid rulers, Malik Mahmud Sistani, two Afshar rulers, Hasan Khan Salar and Colonel Pesyan also enjoyed independance.
I'm not a supporter of Khorasan's independance from Iran. All I'm saying historically Khorasan was a seperate nation from rest of Iran. We Khorasani cherish our history and culture. No one can take that away from us. Our beautiful cities like Mashhad, Herat, Merv, Bokhara, Samarqand,etc...
Isn't it true that Tehran under Qajars and current regime continue/d to spend the country's wealth only on one city(the capital) and other cities don't recieve any funding, investment and miss out on infrastructure. Why Khorasan one of the wealthiest provinces of Iran has such poor infrastructure and people live in poverty, unemployment and high crime rate, while the Tehroonis have high salary, metro, good airports, good universities, great libraries, great museums, great apartments, great roads, great shopping centres? Don't you think Tehran neglects rest of Iran, especially Eastern provinces of Iran? Have you ever been to Golestan province, any of the Khorasan provinces or Sistan-Baluchistan? Go there and see for yourself how people live there.
Wouldn't a federal system be a good solution to this problem? It will be beneficial as funds will be distributed to each state based either equally or based on the wealth of the state and not capital-city centric. Distribution of funds/investment/infrastructure is what i like to see not separation of Khorasan.
