GOLD:

Also significant for the Tajik economy was the revelation on Wednesday that Tajikistan’s geologists had found two major new gold deposits after four years of searching for them. Tajikistan's chief geologist Azim Ibrokhim announced at a press conference reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the two deposits appeared to hold a combined 174 tons of gold. He said one deposit was in the center of the country and had 116 tons of gold, and the second was in the north and had 58 tons of gold.

POWER PLANT TO BE BUILT BY CANADA
The government of President Emomali Rahmon announced Wednesday that Canada’s Canog Energy Inc. would construct a new power station in the Rasht Valley, 120 miles east of the capital Dushanbe.

NATURAL GAS
Tajikistan recently discovered 60 billion cubic meters of natural gas just 22 miles southwest of its capital, Dushanbe--enough to supply the country for the next 50 years--and that finding is now shaking up the region. Around 2011-2013 gas field will produce 2bcm which is twice TJ's current gas consumption

SANGTUDA-2 DAM TO BE COMPLETED IN 2011
In late December Iran began transporting by air 75 tons of electronic equipment to Tajikistan to complement the hydroelectric dam Sangtuda-2, about 100 kilometers south of Dushanbe, which will produce 220 megawatts of electricity a year. The Iranian ambassador to Tajikistan, Ali Asghar Sherdust, said that the turbines needed for Sangtuda-2, produced in China, were brought to the port of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. Each turbine weighs 140 tonnes and Iran will ship them to Tajikistan by air. It is hoped the dam will be completed and start producing energy by 2011, Tajikistan has invested 40 million dollars in the project in Iran 180 million, apart from the cost of air transport. In return Iran will manage the dam for the first 12 years.

Tajik president Emomali Rakhmon participated in a ceremony marking the end of the second phase of construction of the Sangtuda-2 dam November 28, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported. He pressed a button that set off explosives temporarily blocking the Vakhsh riverbed. Rakhmon said 90% of the construction is over, and when the dam is completed, Tajikistan will realize over 1m kWt/h of electricity annually, AsiaPlus reported November 29.

Damn, that will be a hard fist in the face of Uzbeks and Kyrgyz people :D but I guess this is not really new. The entire region has rich resources, beginning from northern Afghanistan to Tajikistan and Bukhara, Samarqand and Termez. If Tajik in Uzbekistan could take over all the resources in their regions, they surely will become the most powerful people in CA.
