Sanaei commemorated in Tajikistan E-mail

Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, three Persian-speaking countries held a commemoration ceremony to mark the 850th death anniversary of Sanaei, a prominent Iranian poet from the Ghaznavid era, here Saturday.

The one-day event was sponsored by Tajikistan's Academy of Sciences and Iran's Cultural Office in that country.

Iran's Ambassador in Dushanbe Ali Asghar Sherdoust presented an article titled 'Status of Sanaei in Promoting Persian Literature and Mysticism' at the event.

He said that holding the ceremony indicates that three countries' interest in knowing more about the poet.

Persian literature abounds in rare personalities and Sanaei is among them who is distinct from the others in expressing ideas using simple words.

"Sanaei, who lived in the fifth century AH, conveyed life as he saw it," he said, noting that his works served as a light for a large number of poets of Sufism.

Meanwhile, head of Philosophy and History Institute of Tajikistan's Academy of Sciences, Karamtollah Alamev said that Sanaei was the spiritual master of Molana Jalaleddin Mohammad Rumi and Attar Neishabouri, two other noted Iranian poets.

Sanaei was a founder of Sufism in Persian literature, he noted.

Afghanistan's Ambassador to Tajikistan Mohammad Kheirkhah told the same event that Sanaei's poems can promote bonds between Persian- speaking states.

UNESCO's designation of the current year as the Year of Sanaei Commemoration is a kind confession about the share of Persian-speaking countries in building global culture and civilization.
